Mr Zul =)

This would probably my last entry in waiting for entrance to the dreaded NS.So i would dedicate this post to my short stint for the past 3 months or so.Just a brief summary.drumrollllllsss =)

Tampines Secondary

Hah...i've no idea they would call me as the sch is quite far from my hse but they did....the sch is pretty old and is in the secluded area of Tampines...first day of teaching quite nervous but tried to 'act fierce' lah coz i noe they sure think wad is this youngster doing here or something like dat...But before i enter the sch, i oreadi wanna give up...the journey is like 1 hr plus leh....must wake up like 6 somemore...aha...ok enuff of complaining....1st day report to work must be presentable nt grumpy.I feel quite weird lah coz usually i'm in the parade sq singing the national anthem and sch song with the students but now with the teachers...feel like more 'privelleged'...aha...den i was briefed on some relief teaching matters...one thing that caught my attention was the recent news about a relief teacher making the student pregnant.C'mon lah i was thinking i came here to teach nt to hanky-panky or wad but then i realised this is an important matter to emphasize as the students are ard our age and somehow they would want to have a relationship more than just teacher-student.So as teachers, we must practise self-restraint and be more matured lah compared to the students. As for me, relationship is fine lar as long as nt going to the extreme, other than that I'm cool...LOL...After that do the normal things lah like take attendance and stuff....Tampines sec students nt bad lar as in they are quite well-behaved and respectful so teaching them is nt a problem...also my fren is there so she's the one who's been guiding me around the sch..

Ok so you must be asking wad i'm doing in a pri sch.The fact is i want to gain experience in working in diff. environment....how the teaching system in pri and sec sch differs so maybe i can apply this invaluable experience in the future...so first day was kind of ok lar...teachers there quite friendly maybe because they are nt pressured as much as sec teachers...so i'm able to get some chatting times wif the teachers there.Teaching in pri sch is totally diff lah from sec sch....first of all dey are little kids so u must explain to them especially instructions in detail if nt they will do diff things. Also, they have very short attention span.Got once i was teaching maths i think, there's this little boy who took a broom and start sweeping the floor, right in front of me.

Mr Zul:Ah boy, what are you doing?
Xiao Di:Sweeping the floor lor
Mr Zul: -/- "

Momentarily, i was amused by the child's antics coz here i am teaching then anyhow sweep in front of me.Not mentioning the amount of dust he's creating. So i offered them some sweets that i had, coz i think they would now behave properly...so now jialat everyday before going sch must buy sweets for them.

Some of my frens told me that teaching in pri sch is boring as in all u get to see is little kids but i beg to differ(although there are a few chio teachers worth mentioning =) ) This is because you achieve full satisfaction at the end of the day when they fully understand what you teach and they really regard you as their teacher. To me, it's worth it as you get to pass on your knowledge to these little ones.An experiece etched in my mind. =)

Yishun Secondary

A tinge of nervousness eluded me when i was asked to teach here.Coz i noe alot of frens there lah and i feel weird meeting them as a teacher. In the morning reach there 7.40am and i was quite surprised the assembly hasn't finish yet.So i need to walk right in front of the whole school just to reach the office...damn paiseh ar coz i dun like it when alot of ppl are staring at me.After completing the admin stuffs and ready to teach , first task was the Sec 5.In terms of height i was like so pale in comparison lah....even some of the girls are taller than me.In terms of maturity, they even commented i looked like a student if i were to don their uniform (.!. ")I jts laughed it off with them coz i dun think they are serious.Their form teacher had previously give them something to do so i just sit down there and entertain their questions be it academic and some personal ones also.

I still remember the class 2/2 vividly. The class where the boys are mortals whereas the girls are immortals.lol.The boys are so decent and so reserved while the girls i CMI.Had quite a hard time controlling the class girls.Firstly when i arrived , they were cheering so loudly coz i tink they are happy their teacher did nt come so i expected that lar.But after dat,the girls got more vocal and daring and start asking my age, got gf anot lar,my contact no,email and such.I tink they had nt seen a male relief teacher so that explains their rowdy behaviour. They even took my box of marker pens and run away with it.At some point, I was put to ransom as in I can't conduct my lessons unless i answer their questions. There was this girl who even wanted to see how i look without my specs.Of course i won't succumb to that request. But somehow she managed to take my specs away while others snapped some pics with their hp....i feel like a total idiot can!But luckily at the moment, i remember a tip from a colleague of mine. So, i took out a piece of paper and just scribbled any number i can think of and also some e-mail add. and it worked! They seemed pretty satisfied and settled down soon after and things when quite smooth after that.So to those budding relief teachers, note this down coz it works perfectly!

There was once this technical class i remember, somehow the percentage of 'mats' there is considerably large.Well, that's not the main point.I'm coming to that...Usually, when i wasn't given any workplan to teach, i let them listen to music and do their own stuffs. So the noise from the music was inevitable but luckily its not that to the extent of disturbing other classes. But, at one point i realise that they are nt listening to music anymore. Then, i saw a crowded group at one end of the class. So, i walked up to them and they dispersed like ants.Already puzzled, i ask one of the girls.

Mr Zul:Hey, do u noe what are they doing?
Girl:You noe lar, hardcore thing
Mr Zul:What!?
Girl:*laughs*

Haha...i was like damn baffled lah....only sec 3 then do stuffs like this. Not only that, the girls and guys seemed entertained while watching that stuffs together.Watching it from such as small hp screen seems pathetic enough. No wonder my sec sch does't allow the usage of hp in class. There are reasons to every rule, i guess.

Being a relief teacher does not necessarily means just the usual paparazzis from the students but i do face the lowdowns as well.I remember when i walked into the class of a sec 4 express class, the students bombard me with these questions; Hey you're sure you're qualified to teach?, You're just 16....and some blahblah.Wah kao, at that point of time i was damn pissed off arh and i feel like telling them if not happy can settle outside sch.But then, i kept my composure and remained nonchalant abt it...Ya, i know i'm just a relief but i'll try my best to answer their questions and they no need to be so rude right...The next thing i noe i was dishing out my maths tricks to them coz they seems nt really interested in asking academic questions so i thought i could do some entertaining lar...Quote from Mr Fahizul of Pasir Ris Crest Sec Sch, "Being a teacher is like being an entertainer. You must do something that could get their attention.".Haha.... one of the magic trick i told them is like they can choose any 5 digit numbers and i will be able to guess it correctly.Wanna know how i did it?Ask me lor =)True enuff i find dat they were more down-to-earth and humble in their next questions.

There are more incident and happenings in sch although i can't blog abt due to time constraints. Now, i can truly feel the pain my teachers had gone through in teaching us.Nonetheless, i can proclaim that being a teacher is a rewarding experience and i would consider it as a viable career option in the future.
