The Other Mr Zul

My turn my turn..
Relief teacher. 2 out of 3 months. English, E Maths, NT Science, LS Science, Physics, Art, Literature, Malay, Geography, Music, Social Studies, History and Chinese.

Excursions. Class cheers. Playing pranks. Fights. Quarrels. Emo kids. Covering for the DM. Giving lectures on purpose of life. Innocent mischief. Students watching porn from a hp. Confiscating notes being passed around then reading it out to the whole class. Giving treats. Dragging dismissal time. Playing hangman (and I ALWAYS win). Competitions.

First day
Horrible. Really horrible. I almost wanted to give up. I had one of the most difficult timetables. First day and I've got students talking back when I tried scolding. A really nice start indeed.

Ever since then I started using a different approach.

1. Sarcasm.

Me: So that's how it's done.
Student: So that's how it's done.
Me: Did he just imitate me? (with a shocked face) Wow. A breakthrough seh. A round of applause, class.

And watch his face turn red. Like a Washington red delicious apple. Well, it works sometimes.

2. Revenge.

There's this group of super noisy and giggly girls who are kinda defiant. Then there's once one of them had to lead the class in a class cheer. As usual, the class wasn't co-operating.

Girl: Cher, help me lah cher. They never listen leh.
Me: Why should I help you? (with a 'watever' face)
Girl: ....

But then she cried. Okay. A bit too mean there.

Another one. 2 boys who keep on pretending they're sweeping the floor? Easy. I asked them to sweep outside the classroom. Then I closed the doors. 2 corridor sweepers.

Boys: Cher outside clean already.
Me: Where got? There, there and there. Go.
Boys: Walao.
Class: *laughs

One more. Scolding mats. I enjoyed this one.

Class: Oei go in by the front lah.
Mat: Dun care lah.
Me: ENTER by the front door please..
Mat: Aiya enter front and back same what.
Me: Well if you have a wife you'll know it's not the same

Ok I didn't say that last line. But seriously, some of them are respectful. I often get a queue of malay boys wanting to salam me.

I wont blog about the good part cos Zul already did.

Overall, it's really fun. I did a 'no rules' thing on my last day. They crazily blasted music from their phones. And I got gifts. =) Imho, it's a good school, if I were to compare with my sec school.
